Dan Mayer has been the books arts printer and studio manager for Pyracantha Press since 1986. The press is located in the book arts teaching studio in the Herberger College School of Art at Arizona State University. Mayer's professional publishing activities at the press include experimental collaborative books, prints and broadsides with visiting artists, writers, musicians and poets. This year Pyracantha Press celebrated its 25th anniversary. 

Mayer also specializes in teaching Artist's Books and Photopolymer Relief within the printmaking program. In the fall of 2000, Mayer founded the ASU student artist book group, ABBA: A-Buncha-Book-Artists. The club's emphasis is professional development through exhibitions and workshops with renowned guest artists such as Xu Bing, Susan kae Grant and Buzz Spector.

Studio works by Mayer reach an international audience through exhibitions, visual art workshops, residencies, and public art projects.

Mayer's work is held in national and international public and private collections including: Artpool: Artists' Books Archives, Budapest, Hungary; Klingspor Stadt Museum, Offenbach, Germany; The Getty Center for the History of Art and Humanities, Santa Monica, Calif., Yale University, Arts of the Book Collection, Sterling Memorial Library, The Ruth and Marvin Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry, Miami Beach, Fla., and others.

Mayer's artists' books and prints have been exhibited at the Frankfurt International Book Fair, Germany; University of Guam; Glasgow Print Studio Gallery, Scotland; Impact International Printmaking Conference, Cape Town, South Africa; and others. Mayer is active in national and international artist residencies and workshops, including at Glasgow Print Studios, Scotland; UCROSS Foundation, Clearmont, Wyoming; Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Louisiana State University.

Mayer received his MFA in Printmaking from the School of Art, Herberger College of the Arts, ASU, in 2007, and his BFA in Printmaking from ASU Herberger College School of Art in 1986.
