The Seattle Art Museum has two research libraries: the Dorothy Stimson Bullitt Library at SAM downtown and the McCaw Foundation Library at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. In the last few years, library staff at both libraries recognized a real desire to develop a book arts collection and an effort was begun.
The collection is small—just a few hundred titles to date—but is growing. It is represented at both libraries, and includes: artists’ books, zines, broadsides, and photobooks. Traci Timmons, Senior Librarian, will share examples, how the collection got started, how it has developed, how the libraries are raising awareness about the collection, and future plans.
