HAND PAPERMAKING and The Language of Making

HAND PAPERMAKING and The Language of Making

Monday February 24, 2020 7:00-9:00pm (doors open at 6:45)

Special Collections, Classroom B069, Suzzallo Library

presented by the Book Arts Guild & University of Washington Libraries

The Book Arts Guild and HAND PAPERMAKING invite you to join us for an evening exalting paper, printing, and poetry. HAND PAPERMAKING Executive Director Michael Fallon will introduce their programs, and Board Member Alta Price will speak about their publications and portfolio series, focusing on the most recent, lucky number 13, with the theme “In Between.”

HAND PAPERMAKING’s latest annual broadside, “The Language of Making”, is the stunning result of collaboration between three Pacific Northwest creative spirits: poet Kathleen Flenniken, papermaker Mary Ashton, and printer Jessica Spring. At this event, Mary Ashton will present a slideshow on the process of producing the pulp-painted paper and she will then be joined by printer Jessica Spring in conversation with Alta about how the broadside came together.

Founded in 1986, HAND PAPERMAKING’s print and online publications chronicle the finest work in the field, while advancing the scholarship and production of handmade paper and paper art.
